Miguel Titeca’s work explores the space between recognition and abstraction. Through movement, light and water, familiar forms are transformed into images that resist certainty.
Photography is a starting point rather than a boundary. The image is allowed to move away from what was originally seen, opening a space where perception, memory and imagination can coexist.
WITHOUT PERMISSION brings together different bodies of work within this approach. Rather than offering fixed interpretations, the work invites the viewer to slow down, look again and discover their own meaning.
Beauty already exists. Art is a way of recognising it.
MIGUEL TITECA
lives and works between Belgium and Portugal
Miguel Titeca followed an unconventional path into the visual arts.
After a professional career in real estate development, where the design and creation of spaces played a central role, he left the business world in search of a slower and more meaningful creative life.
Dividing his time between Belgium and Portugal, he combined running a small hospitality project with the development of his artistic practice. Painting was his first artistic language, but photography gradually became the medium through which he could explore perception, movement and memory with greater freedom.
His early photographic work received international recognition through publications and awards. Rather than pursuing photography as a documentary or commercial discipline, he increasingly began to question the medium itself, using the photographic image as material for visual exploration.
Today, his practice moves between recognition and abstraction, allowing images to remain open rather than resolving into fixed interpretations.
His work has been exhibited in Belgium and Portugal, published internationally, and is held in private collections in Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland and the United States.
